The Specialty Coffee Association of Japan would like to warmly welcome you to the SCAJ World Specialty Coffee Conference and Exhibition 2023 (SCAJ2023). We would also like to express our sincere gratitude for your continued support of our organization's mission and events.
Last October, SCAJ2022 was a roaring success after two years of cancellations and downsizing due to the COVID-19. It was held with the same scale and content as before the pandemic, with 375 booths from 235 companies from 25 countries, and a three-day visitor total of over 44,000 people, the largest in our history.
Amid this excitement, our organization is about to hit our 20th anniversary. We're grateful for the growth in popularity of specialty coffee in our country, and in order that we may keep this momentum moving, this year's exhibition with the theme of "Celebrating 20 years of SCAJ with you!" will have seminars and exhibits including producing countries, competitions, and other opportunities for direct interactions, as well as the latest information on the specialty coffee industry.
We would also like to sincerely thank the exhibitors, sponsors, and all those who make this year's event possible.

Shuji Akimoto
President
Specialty Coffee Association of Japan
Thank you very much for your consistent support.
Thanks to you, SCAJ celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and has started to hold its 18th exhibition this year.
SCAJ was founded in 2003 with the goal of raising awareness of and popularizing specialty coffee in Japan amid the background of the foundation of SCAA in America in 1982, SCAE in Europe in1998, BSCA in Brazil in 1991, and similar specialty coffee organizations inCosta Rica in 1994, Panama in 1998, and South Africa in 2000. When the global market price of coffee hit a historic low in 2001-2002, the industry entered an era known as the "Coffee Crisis." Producers scrambled to cut costs, quality tumbled due to difficulties with fertilizer management, and roasters in consumer countries were forced into battles of attrition in price wars. Amid such conditions, momentum was building to create a sustainable coffee industry, cease price wars in favor of quality wars, and provide delicious coffee to consumers at a reasonable price, leading to the foundation of SCAJ.
This year, we're taking a first step toward a new future. With a theme of "Celebrating 20 years of SCAJ with you!," we're asking our long-term patrons, new members, and all lovers of specialty coffee around the world and in Japan to come together with us and celebrate this occasion.
As with every year, we'll deliver the most up-to-date news from the fast-moving specialty coffee industry, reaffirm the wonder, charm, and diversity of specialty coffee, and make these three days an opportunity for new discoveries.
We can't wait to have you join us.
